The most known Russian sculptor of 19th century. Was very productive, created many models on daily life, hunting scenes, Cossacks and Caucasians, Arabs, as well as some French and English subjects.
Was very strong on modeling horses (didn’t do any bears or other animals, just very few dogs).
There was an unformal competition going on with Vasily Grachev during the 1870-1886 time frame till E. Lanceray died at the age of 38. For such a short time period he created over one hundred models (not 400 as falsely advertised).
Used to cast all his works at Felix Chopin’s foundry in St. Petersbourg, Russia, except some of his very first ones (before 1870).
After passing away some of his models were taken to France, but the others remained in Russia continue to be cast with K.Berto, A.Moran and N.Shtange foundries.
